The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) announced today its intention to rename 'French music' as 'French noise'. Jason Berman, the IFPI's CEO, said that the new label is a more accurate description of the French phonographic industry. He also denied any further renaming of music styles, pleasing the Recording Industry Association of America since there were fears the IFPI could also rename rap music as rap vociferation. The IFPI CEO said, however, that 'Rap should be called rap and not rap music, since the words rap and music are irreconcilable. Rap music is an oxymoron, like military intelligence.'
